What that means in practice

The tours listed here are sold by Viator and GetYourGuide. When you follow a link from one of these pages and go on to book, the platform pays us a share of its own commission. You pay the same fare either way; the price on the booking page is the operator's price, not a marked-up one. A ticket you buy direct from West Coast Railways earns us nothing.

What we are not

We are not a tour operator or a ticket office. We do not run any of these tours, employ any of these guides or hold your booking. Your contract is with the operator, through the platform.

We have no connection with West Coast Railways, ScotRail, Network Rail, the National Trust for Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland or any tour operator, and the Jacobite's name, timetable and fares are the railway's own.

How tours get listed and badged

Operators cannot pay for placement, position or a badge. Our three badges are measurable claims: Best value goes to the cheapest per-person fare, Best seller to the tour with the most reviews, and Top rated to a rating of 4.9 or higher. Gray Line sells its train-optional day on both platforms, and each listing appears on its own because each is separately bookable and priced, with different cancellation terms.

The featured tours at the top of the homepage are three different days: the day from Edinburgh with a one-way ride in the fare, the day from Edinburgh that watches the crossing for 90 minutes, and three days from Inverness with the ride and two nights on Skye.

Prices, ratings and how current they are

Prices, star ratings and review counts belong to the operators and were taken from their own listings on 25 September 2026. They move, and the figure at checkout is the one that counts. Every tour fare is quoted in US dollars because that is the currency the listings were captured in; nothing is converted at an exchange rate. The railway's own fares are quoted in pounds, as West Coast Railways publishes them. Most tour fares are per person; the private days are priced for a group of up to four.

The timetable, fares, refund bands, carriages and access rules come from West Coast Railways; the viaduct's listing, length and arches from Historic Environment Scotland; Glenfinnan's hours, prices and parking from the National Trust for Scotland; and the climate averages from the Met Office. Where a detail comes from an operator's listing, such as a meeting point, a group size or a stop, it belongs to that tour.

What we deliberately do not publish

• The minute the train crosses the viaduct. No official source publishes it, and it moves with the running of the day. We give the station times the railway publishes.
• Which film used which location. The viaduct's fame from the Harry Potter films is well documented; a scene-by-scene list is not, from an official source.
• 2027 dates and fares. They had not been published when the pages were written.
• Sunshine hours. Neither of the Met Office stations nearest the line publishes them.
• Listing claims the railway contradicts. An older Gray Line overview still promises a packed breakfast that the operator says it stopped serving in 2026. Some multi-day listings describe the train as running from April or through the summer; the 2026 service ran from 1 June to 23 October. Private listings that say the train might not run in 2026 are out of date.
